The short answer

UAE National Day is on Wednesday 2 December 2026, the 55th, and 2026 is the Year of the Family. A brand that wants a film, a reel series and a social plan live on the day has about five weeks to make them, and the rules on AI imagery, national dress and permits are tighter than they were a year ago. This guide sets out the dates, the rules, six campaign ideas that fit the family theme and a week-by-week plan.

55National DayThe 55th, on 2 December 2026.

It is written for marketing managers who are about to brief an agency. Everything we say about the rules comes from the authorities' own notices as reported by the UAE press, and where a point is unclear we say so.

01

When is UAE National Day 2026, and what is the theme?

National Day, also called Eid Al Etihad, is on Wednesday 2 December 2026. It is the 55th. Holiday guides expect the public holiday to cover 2 and 3 December, subject to the official announcement, so a long weekend is likely if the Friday is taken as leave.

2026 is the Year of the Family. The President declared it on 6 November 2025, tied to the National Family Growth Agenda 2031. For a brand, that makes family the natural subject of the season: shared meals, three generations in one frame, the home. The theme is also why generic flag-and-fireworks creative will look thin this year.

02

What do the rules allow in National Day content?

On 30 September 2026 the National Media Authority published a notice that matters to anyone making National Day creative. As reported by Khaleej Times, it says:

AreaWhat the authority saysWhat it means for a brief
AI imageryUsing AI or other technology to create images or videos of national symbols or public figures without prior official approval violates the Media Content Standards. "Not everything that can be generated is permitted."Do not generate the flag, leaders or national landmarks as a shortcut. Photograph or film them, or get approval first.
National dressThe Emirati kandura is exclusively for Emiratis in advertising and promotional social media content.Cast accordingly. A non-Emirati actor in a kandura is not allowed in an ad.
The dirhamContent that mocks, trivialises or misrepresents the national currency may lead to action.Keep price and prize graphics respectful.
CreatorsIndividuals publishing advertising content, paid or unpaid, need an advertising permit.Check every creator you brief holds one. See the advertiser permit guide.
DialectThe authority has objected to non-Emiratis using a broken or exaggerated Emirati dialect to sell products.Use a proper Arabic voice session, not an imitation.

Two points are unclear in the published notice: which body gives the "prior official approval", and what penalty applies. Ask the authority before you commit to any concept that depends on either. We found no UAE rule that requires an AI-made ad to carry a label, but that is a separate question from the approval rule above. This is a summary of press reports, not legal advice. Our guide to AI commercial video production in the UAE covers rights and clearance more widely.

03

Which campaign ideas fit the Year of the Family?

These are ideas we would put in front of a client, grouped by the kind of brand. Each one can be shot in a day and cut into several pieces.

  • 01Three generations, one table.A short film of a family meal across ages, ending on a National Day greeting. It suits restaurants, food brands and grocery. Cut it into a 30-second film and three reels.
  • 02The family recipe. One dish, one story, filmed in a real kitchen. It suits food and beverage brands and works as a carousel and a reel as well as a film. Our cafe and restaurant page shows how we shoot food.
  • 03The team and its families.Employees and their families on camera for a corporate National Day film. It suits any company with a staff story and gives a CEO message real material.
  • 0455 moments. The 55th National Day as a device: a 55-second film or 55 family moments across a carousel series. It suits retail and malls and gives social a week of content from one shoot.
  • 05The community offer.A family-day offer in store or at a venue, filmed as it happens. It suits retail and hospitality and feeds both social and paid media.
  • 06A neighbourhood story.A short documentary-style cut about the place the brand serves, for LinkedIn and the website. It suits developers and professional services.

What is a realistic five-week plan to launch on 2 December?

Counting from the end of October, this is the timeline we would agree. Permits are the stage most often left out: Dubai Film and TV Commission approval takes from a few days to two weeks and starts before the shoot is fixed.

  1. 1
Week of 26 October.Brief, concept and rules check. Decide the outputs (film, reels, carousels) and who signs off.
  2. 2
2 to 6 November.Treatment, casting and location. Apply for permits the same week the shoot dates are fixed.
  3. 3
9 to 13 November.Shoot. One shoot day for all the deliverables costs far less than several small ones.
  4. 4
16 to 20 November.Edit, grade, sound and the Arabic and English versions. Send for approval.
  5. 5
23 to 27 November.Teasers go out. Paid social is set up and tested.
  6. 6
30 November to 3 December. The hero film launches on or before 2 December, followed by daily stories, community replies and a thank-you post.

If you read this in November, the plan compresses rather than disappears: drop the TV spot, keep the film and reels, and shoot in one day.

06

How do video and social media work together over National Day?

A film on its own is seen once. The same shoot, planned as a social campaign, fills the fortnight around the date. We build it in four parts.

  • 01One shoot, many pieces. The hero film is cut into reels, stories and carousel frames in 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9, so the planning of the cutdowns happens before the camera rolls.
  • 02A fortnight calendar.Teaser, launch, the day itself, the long weekend and a thank-you, each with its own post and story set.
  • 03Community management.Comments and messages answered in Arabic and English in the brand's voice, which matters on a day when engagement spikes.
  • 04Paid media.Planned and optimised against return, with the budget moved to the pieces that work.

That is the work behind our social media marketing service, which starts from AED 8,000 a month, and our reels, which start from AED 1,000 for the shoot alone.

National Day questions: dates, rules and cost.

When is UAE National Day 2026?

UAE National Day is on Wednesday 2 December 2026, the 55th. The public holiday is expected to cover 2 and 3 December, subject to the official announcement.

What is the UAE theme for 2026?

2026 is the Year of the Family, declared by the UAE President on 6 November 2025 and tied to the National Family Growth Agenda 2031.

Can I use AI to create images of national symbols or public figures in an ad?

Not without prior official approval. The National Media Authority said in September 2026 that creating such images or videos with AI or other technology without approval violates the Media Content Standards. The notice does not say which body approves.

Can a non-Emirati wear a kandura in an advertisement?

The National Media Authority says the Emirati kandura is exclusively for Emiratis in advertising and promotional social media content, so ads should cast accordingly.

How long does it take to produce a National Day video?

For a single-location film, three to four weeks is typical, and Dubai Film and TV Commission permits take from a few days to two weeks. With 2 December five weeks away, a brief sent this week still fits.
